Dr. Lilien, an oral and maxillofacial surgeon, is board certified and a diplomate of the American Dental Society of Anesthesiology. His expertise is in pre-prosthetic oral surgery, preparing the oral cavity for dentures, crowns and implants. He has had extensive training and continuing education courses in grafting techniques where he used innovative materials to maintain or grow bone in the jaw.
He practices the full scope of his profession with trauma, implant reconstruction, exposure of impacted teeth, and transplantation of teeth, surgical endodontics and pathology performed in Dental Specialty Associates state- of-the-art facility.
Dr. Lilien treats his patients as a whole, taking into consideration not only their current, but their potential medical problems prior to his procedures. Chronic disease in the mouth has been recently implicated in causing potential diabetic problems, low birth weight, and premature babies as well as increasing the risk of respiratory pathology. He believes in the comprehensive management of the patient, including, if needed, communication with the patient’s physician or other health care provider. Whether a pediatric patient with a severe infection or an adult in need of full mouth implant reconstruction, Dr. Lilien treats each and every patient with the utmost respect and care.
Dr. Lilien earned his bachelor’s degree from Occidental College in 1984 and then received his DDS with honors from the University of the Pacific Dental School in 1988. From there he received an advanced certificate in hospital dentistry in 1989 from the University of California San Francisco and then went on to complete a four year surgical training residency at Loyola University Medical Center in Chicago in 1993.
He is a member of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, The American Dental Society of anesthesiology, The American Dental Association, The Arizona Dental Association, The Arizona Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, the Phoenix Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and The Western Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons.
